Winterize Your Camper NOW Before It Freezes — Tips, Savings & Must-Know Do’s & Don’ts

The Time to Winterize Your Camper is NOW — Before It FREEZES!

North Dakota temps can drop fast. Don’t wait until the first hard freeze—protect your plumbing, seals, and systems now. Roughrider RVs makes winterization easy so your camper is ready to roll next spring.

Use the Right Antifreeze
Not all antifreezes are the same. Always choose RV & Marine Antifreeze designed for RV plumbing. Using the wrong product can damage pipes, valves, and fittings.

Wash, Clean & Protect the Roof
Storage prep starts with a clean roof and exterior. Grab our RV Roof Cleaner & Protectant to help your roof shed snow and debris all season.

Limited-Time Deal: $5 OFF RV Roof Cleaner — while supplies last.

Typical Winterization Pricing
Labor typically $155 + RV antifreeze $4. Optional plastic on refrigerator vents to keep snow out: +$25. Pricing assumes holding tanks are empty, we have clear access to all drains, and the battery is fully charged. When those items are handled, winterization usually takes about an hour of labor. (Additional repairs quoted separately.)

Winterization Do’s & Don’ts

  • Do schedule ahead—appointments fill quickly.
  • Do tell us about all needed repairs when booking.
  • Do empty holding tanks and the water heater before drop-off.
  • Do empty your pass-through storage for full access.
  • Do tidy up sinks, showers, and toilets.
  • Do tell us if you want plastic on your fridge vents (helps keep snow out).
  • Don’t use chocks or blocks at drop-off—our techs need to move the unit.
  • Don’t leave your RV here for more than one week after work is complete.

DIY Winterization Checklist

  • Top off all P-traps with RV antifreeze.
  • Water heater: remove the drain/plug and set to bypass.
  • Drain and winterize the exterior shower (if equipped).
  • Ensure all holding tanks are drained; leave valves open.
  • Add plastic covers to roof vents and the refrigerator (refer) side vent to keep snow out.
  • Disconnect propane lines and close cylinders for storage. (If unsure, we can help.)
  • Remove and store batteries in a cool, dry place; maintain charge over winter.
  • Fresh water tank(s): drain completely; leave drains open.
  • Black tank: flush thoroughly with ~5 gallons of water and chemical for clean storage.
  • Prop or tape refrigerator doors open slightly to prevent odors and mold.
